The MAIN reason is that our MOONLIGHT menace wants to
remove the superpowers of the super-seven to do general
evil and mayhem, the heroes are 'wired up' as batteries
for MACK DADDY to take their powers, and to do as
he pleases.
One flip of the switch---our heroes are HASbeens, while
Mack D. has all that power, Ms. Cad.
